Notre Dame College, Dhaka, is a Degree college affiliated to the National University. At the invitation of His Grace Lawrence L. Graner, CSC, the then Archbishop of Dhaka, Notre Dame College was founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross Priest Society of the Roman Catholic Church in November 1949 as St Gregory College at the St. Gregory School campus, Luxmibazar, with a view to spreading the light of education in the eastern part of the newly born country, Pakistan, Since its inception the college has been administered by the priests of the Congregation of Holy Cross.

In 1955 the college was relocated at its present site in Motijheel area of Dhaka and renamed as Notre Dame College. Even though it is a Degree College, most students study here in the intermediate level just for two years (classes XI and XII) where Science, Business Studies and Arts subjects are taught. In the three-year Degree program there are Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Pass Course) and Bachelor of Social Sciences (B.S.S. Pass Course).

Besides the regular academic courses in the Intermediate and Degree level, there is a Special English Program almost all year round and it is open to all. Literacy classes (I to VIII) for slum children are held in three shifts, morning, afternoon and evening. There are about 1150 students attending the Literacy School.
